Traction elevators

When power is lost in a traction elevator system, the elevator will initially come to a halt and  then be directed to the nearest floor . The doors open  and the elevator does not operate until power resumes . People in the elevator may see an indicator light or hear a voice announcement informing them that the elevator is operating in the Emergency Rescue Mode due to power failure.

Hydraulic Elevators

In hydraulic elevator systems, emergency power will lower the elevators to the lowest landing and open the doors to allow passengers to exit , The doors open  and the elevator does not operate until power resumes.
